Today, Gradr and SchoolSoft are launching something that has never been done in Sweden before.
Secure digital exams, AI-supported feedback and grading, working as one flow inside the school platform teachers already use. Here is why it matters.
When we started Gradr, the goal was never to add another system to a teacher’s life.
The goal was always to take work off a teacher’s plate, not to pile more on top of it.
And we got part of the way there. Gradr helps a Swedish teacher point out every grammar mistake in a stack of essays. It helps a history teacher write thorough, individual feedback to a whole class in a fraction of the time. But it was never enough. Because writing the feedback was only half the job. The other half was everything that happened around it.
Picture a gymnasium teacher on a Sunday evening. Thirty-one essays have been downloaded from the exam platform and moved into Google Docs or Microsoft Word. They are marked and the feedback is written. And now the real work starts. Open the school platform in one tab and the feedback in another. Find the right course, the right assignment, the right student. Copy, paste. Then do it again for the grade. Then the matris. Thirty-one times. Then go back and check that every student got the right sentence, the right grade and the right matris. None of it helps a single student learn anything. All of it takes time from the people who need it most.
This is not an exception. It is the norm.
When Sveriges Lärare surveyed how teachers actually spent their working week, more than six in ten gymnasium teachers said they did not have enough time for administrative tasks. Half said they did not have enough time for follow-up and feedback on student work, the very thing that moves learning forward. One in five teachers worked more than 45 hours that week.
In the international TALIS study, 45 percent of Swedish lower secondary teachers reported feeling quite or very stressed at work. The problem is big enough that the Swedish government has appointed a national inquiry with one job: to reduce the administrative burden on teachers.
Every single person at Gradr believes in one thing. Teachers are a cornerstone of society, and the one thing they need more of, in days that are already full, is time with their students.
Teachers should not be spending hours every week moving information between platforms. They studied for years to help young people who can become anything they want to be. Doctors, lawyers, astronauts, marine biologists, nurses, teachers themselves, you name it. They did not study for years to make sure information is spread evenly between an exam platform, Google or Microsoft, and the school platform.
That is why our natural next step, in helping set a new standard for some of the most important people in our society, was to take over that communication for them.
So that no teacher ever has to copy and paste, rewrite, or download and upload information for hours again.
A first for Sweden
What Gradr and SchoolSoft are launching has never been done in Sweden before. For the first time, a platform for secure digital exams and AI-supported formative feedback works fully inside a Swedish school platform. Not a link that sends students somewhere else. Not a file the teacher exports and uploads again. One connected flow, from the moment a student opens the exam to the moment the grade, the feedback and the matris land in their profile.
Until now, every Swedish school that used an exam tool, a feedback tool and a school platform has had to connect them by hand. The teacher has been the integration. That ends here.
Why SchoolSoft
SchoolSoft is used by around a third of Swedish schools. It is where teachers plan their courses, where students find their assignments and where guardians follow their children’s schooling. It is the platform schools already trust with their most important information. We did not want to build one more place teachers have to go. We wanted to go where they already are.
SchoolSoft has been part of Swedish schools for more than 25 years. Generations of teachers, students and guardians have used it to plan, report and follow schooling. That kind of trust is not built overnight. Gradr brings the newest layer on top of it: AI-supported feedback and secure digital exams, built for how teaching works today. Experience and stability from one side, a modern way of working from the other. Together, they close the gap teachers have been filling with their evenings.
What the partnership means in practice
A student logs in to SchoolSoft, clicks the assignment and lands straight in Gradr’s locked exam environment. Same login, no new passwords, no codes to hunt for. When the exam is done, the teacher reviews the answers in Gradr, writes structured formative feedback with AI support and approves it. Then, with one click, the grade, the feedback and the matris go back into SchoolSoft, to the right student and the right assignment.
What it means for Swedish schools
This is bigger than one workflow. It shows that the platforms schools already rely on can open up and work together with new tools. Schools no longer have to choose between a modern tool and the platform they trust. They get both, in one place. That is the standard we believe every Swedish school should have, and with SchoolSoft, it starts now.
Here is what changes for everyone involved.
For teachers
Create, manage and deliver thorough, structured formative feedback, then send it straight back to the school platform. One click, not fifty. That Sunday evening goes from hours to minutes.
For students
No more scrambling between different logins and passwords. One login, one place. One click in the school platform and they are ready to enter the exam code or start that class assignment. Less friction before the work means more focus on the work itself.
For parents
For the first time, schools can show parents concretely how their children are doing, by letting them follow their children’s work and progress over time, in SchoolSoft, where they already follow everything else about their child’s school day.
And this matters for more than convenience. Feedback is one of the strongest tools a teacher has, but only when it reaches the student while it still matters. Every hour a teacher spends moving data is an hour that feedback sits waiting. Every extra login is one more reason for a student to lose focus before they have even started.
This partnership is not about logos on a slide. It is about two companies agreeing on one thing: the systems should do the moving, so teachers can do the teaching. It is about giving schools what they need to adapt to modern conditions. Teachers carry more workload than ever, in an environment that keeps changing.
We will not solve all of that with one integration. But we can build things out one step at a time. This is laying the foundation for the new standard.
This is one thing to help the people every one of us meets growing up: our teachers.
